Inherited from Byzantine Greek ἀπόκρισις (apókrisis, answer), from the ancient Ancient Greek ἀπόκρισις (apókrisis, decision, answer). By surface analysis, απο- (apo-, from) +‎ κρίση (krísi, judgement, decision).[1]

For the medical sense,[2][3] learned borrowing from Ancient Greek ἀπόκρισις (apókrisis) from the sense "excretion or secretion, separation".
