Etymology

From βρακί (vrakí, “underpants”) and βράκα (vráka, “vraka, breeches”) +‎ -ο- +‎ ζώνη (zóni, “belt”), already as late Byzantine Greek βρακοζώνι (brakozṓni).^[3] Suffixed with diminutive -ι (-i) in its neuter forms and with augmentative -α (-a) in its modern most common form.
