Usage notes
editDegrees of comparison:
- comparative periphrastic: πιο (pio) + positive forms (e.g. πιο γλυκός /pçó ɣlikós/, etc.)
- comparative monolectic: the expected form γλυκότερος (glykóteros) is less common than γλυκύτερος (glykýteros), comparative of γλυκύς (glykýs).
- relative superlative: ο (o, “article "ο, η, το"”) + πιο (pio) + positive forms (e.g. ο πιο γλυκός /o pçó ɣlikós/, etc.)
- absolute superlative: the expected γλυκότατος (glykótatos) is rare, (see medieval γλυκότατος (glukótatos); the superlative of γλυκύς (glykýs), γλυκύτατος (glykýtatos) is used instead.
Feminine forms:
- γλυκιά (glykiá /ɣlicá/); the dated γλυκεία (glykeía /ɣlicía/) < ancient γλυκεῖα (glukeîa) of γλυκύς (glykýs) sometimes found as γλυκειά (glykeiá).
