Etymology edit

Maybe from Proto-Indo-European *kerp- (to pluck, to harvest) and so cognate with Proto-Germanic *harbistaz (harvest), Latin carpō (I pluck) and Ancient Greek καρπός (karpós, fruit). Beekes, instead, claims that the word must be of Pre-Greek origin.
