κύνωψ
Ancient Greek
editAlternative forms
edit- ἀχύνωψ (akhúnōps)
Etymology
editAccording to Beekes from Pre-Greek, due to the presence of a prothetic vowel in the alternative form. This form may be due to folk etymology, making it appear to be from κυνο- (kuno-, “dog”) + ὤψ (ṓps, “eye, face”).
