From σῠν- (sun-, beside, with, along with) +‎ ὅρος (hóros, boundary), from Proto-Hellenic *wórwos (whence Mycenaean Greek 𐀺𐀺 (wo-wo)), from Proto-Indo-European *werw-; possible cognates include Latin urvō (to trace, mark out bounds).
