Ancient Greek edit

Etymology edit

Without a convincing etymology. A connection with Proto-Germanic *sturkaz (stork) seems gratuitous. Thompson compares Coptic ⲧⲣⲉ (tre, kite).

Pronunciation edit

  1. vulture
Synonyms: αἰγυπιός (aigupiós), γύψ (gúps), λώβηξ (lṓbēx)
