Etymology edit

Learnedly, from Ancient Greek ὠφελῶ (ōphelô), contracted form of ὠφελέω (ōpheléō), from ὄφελος n (óphelos, benefit) via combining forms like -ωφελής (as in ἀνωφελής (anōphelḗs, useless)) with the omicron extended to omega in composition. Also see ὀφείλω (opheílō, owe)[1]
