editFrom Proto-Mongolic *bayar (“joy”), equivalent to *baya + -р (-r).
Possibly influenced by Common Turkic *badram (“merriment, feast”) which is otherwise unlikely to be related.
Compare East Yugur biyar, Turkish bayram.
