Etymology edit

From Proto-Slavic *ǫgrъ (creep, bug, larva) +‎ -ец (-ec). Cognate with Serbo-Croatian у̀грк (larva of gadfly), Slovene ọ̑grc (pustula caused by a parasite) and akin to Polish wągier (comedo), Czech uher (pimple).
