Etymology

Developed in the 1930s by members of the Organization of Ukrainian Nationalists (OUN) and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army (UPA), in honour of veterans of the Ukrainian War of Independence. It became popularised by Stepan Bandera's group, OUN-B, in 1941.
