Russian edit

Etymology edit

Compare дря́бнуть (drjábnutʹ, to become flabby), дрябь f (drjabʹ, flabbiness), from Proto-Slavic *dręb-. Per Vasmer, quoting Mikloshich, related to Lithuanian drìbti (to trickle, to drip with thick drops) (1sg. drimbù), drabnùs (fat), dramblỹs (thick-chested; elephant). Apparently also related to Ancient Greek θρόμβος (thrómbos, clot), θρομβεῖον (thrombeîon, lump).
