Etymology

edit

Specific Ukrainian formation of unclear origin. Aleksander Potebnja[1] reconstructs *шакловати (*šaklovaty) to be the original form with unclear etymology. Possibly from a Turkic language. Compare with Turkish çakmak (to knock, to nail; to strike out fire (to make fire); to understand, to guess).
