editBorrowed from Ottoman Turkish چوربهجی / چورباجی (çorbacı, a military rank of the Janissaries, literally “soup cook”). Equivalent to чорба (čorba, “soup”) + -джия (-džija). Cognate to Macedonian чорбаџија (čorbadžija) and Greek τσορμπατζής (tsormpatzís).
