Adapted by the Hellenizing School from ընդ (ənd) +‎ -ա- (-a-).[1] The spelling ընթա- (əntʻa-) reflects an intermediate form.[1]

Used post-classically to calque Ancient Greek words prefixed with ὑπο- (hupo-), e.g. ենթադրեմ (entʻadrem) = ὑποτίθημι (hupotíthēmi), ենթածեմ (entʻacem) = ὑπάγω (hupágō), ենթամնամ (entʻamnam) = ὑπομένω (hupoménō), ենթալուսնեայ (entʻalusneay) = ὑποσελήνιος (huposelḗnios), ենթակայ (entʻakay) = ὑπόστασις (hupóstasis).[1]
