Etymology

The root is խած- (xac-), from Proto-Indo-European (according to Godel *khad-ye-), +‎ -ան- (-an-). Cognates include Sanskrit खादति (khā́dati, to chew, bite, eat, devour), Avestan 𐬬𐬍-𐬑𐬀𐬛𐬀- (vī-xada-, to squeeze apart), Persian خاییدن (xâyidan, to gnaw, chew). See also խայթ (xaytʻ).

խածանեմ (xacanem)  (aorist indicative խածի)

  1. to bite, to sting (often refers to biting of snakes and beasts)
    խածանել զմիմեանսxacanel zmimeansto bite one another
    հաս եւ խած առնելhas ew xac aṙnelto eat greedily, to devour voraciously
  2. (figuratively) to nettle, to sting, to snarl at, to revile
