Etymology edit

From Middle Persian ʾhhtn' (āhīxtan, to draw out, pull up, extract), from Proto-Iranian *ā- (ad) + *θanǰáyati (to pull, draw).[1] The prefix is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂éd (near, at).
