Etymology

edit

Borrowed from Arabic أَوْقَات (ʔawqāt), the plural of وَقْت (waqt), whence Urdu وقت (vaqt, time).

Although this is the formal plural of vaqt, it is generally used as a singular feminine noun with a different sense from "time".
