- 7th century CE, Ṣaḥīḥ al-Buḵāriyy, 70:14:
- مَا عَلِمْتُ النَّبِيَّ —صَلَّى اللَّٰهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ— أَكَلَ عَلَى سُكُرُّجَةٍ قَطُّ، وَلَا خُبِزَ لَهُ مُرَقَّقٌ قَطُّ، وَلَا أَكَلَ عَلَى خِوَانٍ
- mā ʕalimtu n-nabiyya —ṣallā llāhu ʕalayhi wasallama— ʔakala ʕalā sukurrujatin qaṭṭu, wa-lā ḵubiza la-hū muraqqaqun qaṭṭu, wa-lā ʔakala ʕalā ḵiwānin
- I never knew the Prophet—may God bless him and grant him peace—to ever eat from a side-dish plate, or to eat crumbled bread, or to eat at a table.
