Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tạrïg (millet); cognate with Azerbaijani darı, Bashkir тары (tarı), Chuvash тырӑ (tyră), Kumyk тари (tari), Kyrgyz таруу (taruu), Turkmen dary, Uyghur تېرىق (tëriq) and Uzbek tariq.
