editFrom Middle Persian 𐭧𐭫𐭥𐭬𐭠𐭣𐭩𐭪 (Hrōmāyīg, “Greek, Byzantine, Roman”). Middle Persian 𐭧𐭫𐭥𐭬 (Hrom) being the Middle Persian term for Rome and Middle Persian 𐭩𐭪 (-ig) being the suffix which forms adjectives of relation.

Usage notes
edit- In Dari Persian, this word can be used for someone from the modern-day city of Rome. In Iranian Persian this word is used for ancient Rome exclusively and the spelling رُمی (romi) is instead used for the residents of the city.
