Etymology 2
editشیر (šir, “milk”) + an uncertain second part; cognate to Central Kurdish شیرێژ (şîrêj), سیرێژ (sîrêj) and Gurani سیراج (sîrac). Compare Persian شیرزا (širzâ), شیرزاد (širzâd, “a fattening drug which gives an increase of milk”), in Classical Syriac recorded in the form ܫܝܪܙܝܕ (šyrzyd) by Bar Bahlul.
