Etymology edit

First attested in c. 1534 as Middle Hindi ملیامیٹ (mlyāmeṭ /⁠mlyāmyṭ⁠/), from ملی (milī, found) +‎ ا (ā) +‎ میٹ، میٹا/مٹانا (meṭ, meṭā, miṭānā, erased). Unrelated to English eliminate or annihilate. Compare Punjabi مِلِیامیٹ (milīyāmeṭ).

      yih xalqat-e qudrat meṉ namūdār hai aur tauḥīd meṉ malīyāmeṭ.
      In natural creation it is apparent and [while] in monotheism it is lost.
