Borrowed from Classical Persian هند (hind), from Old Persian 𐏃𐎡𐎯𐎢𐏁 (hindūš), ultimately from Sanskrit सिन्धु (sindhu, stream). Doublet of سندھ (sindh) and انڈیا (inḍiyā).
