ܓܪܒܝܐ
Assyrian Neo-Aramaic
editEtymology
editFrom Aramaic גַרבְּיָא (garbəyā), from Akkadian gallābu šamê (gallābu šamê, “North wind”, literally “Barber of the sky”), in Mesopotamian contexts, the reference is usually to “northwest”, i.e., upriver, therefore related to ܓܲܠܵܒ݂ܵܐ (gallāḇā, “dagger”) and ܫܡܲܝܵܐ (šmayyā, “sky”).
