Etymology

From Aramaic מַּערְבָא (maʿrəḇā), derived from the same root as עֲרָבָא (ʿărāḇā, “sunset”); compare Arabic غَرْب (ḡarb) and Hebrew מַעֲרָב (ma'aráv).
