Etymology

From the root ܕ-ܟ-ܪ (d-k-r) related to remembering. Compare Hebrew זִכָּרוֹן (zikkārōn). The sense of "portion of a sacrifice" is a calque of Hebrew אַזְכָּרָה (ʾazkārâ).
