Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit, from Sanskrit कश्चित् (káścit). Likely also influenced by Sanskrit कोऽपि (kó’pi), from कः (kaḥ) + अपि (api). Cognate to Awadhi कोई (koī), Braj कोऊ (koū), Punjabi ਕੋਈ (koī), Gujarati કોઈ (koī), Marathi कुणी (kuṇī), Bengali কেউ (keu), Bhojpuri केऊ (kēū), Assamese কেও (keü), Sinhalese කොයි (koyi).
