From Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁(y)-. Cognate with Latin fellō, Old Church Slavonic доити ‎(doiti), Gothic 𐌳𐌰𐌳𐌳𐌾𐌰𐌽 ‎(daddjan, suckle), Ancient Greek θηλή ‎(thēlḗ) and Old Armenian դիեմ ‎(diem).
