Inherited from Old Hindi मेरौ (merau), मेरा (merā), from Apabhramsa महारिय (mahāriya), मेर (mera) + Middle Indo-Aryan -𑀓- (-ka-).[1] See there for more. Cognate with Assamese মোৰ (mür), Gujarati મારું (mārũ), Punjabi ਮੇਰਾ (merā) and Romani miro.
