Borrowed from Classical Persian خوب (xūb), from Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭡 (hwp /⁠xūb⁠⁠/), from Old Persian [script needed] (*ʰuvāpa), ultimately from Proto-Iranian *HhuHā́pah (good (in works); artistic; well created), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *HsuHápas, from Proto-Indo-European *h₁su-h₃ép-os (good work). Cognate with Hindustani خوب (xob) / ख़ूब (xūb), Marathi खूप (khūp), Punjabi ਖ਼ੂਬ (xūb).
