Borrowed from Classical Persian خواب, from Middle Persian 𐭧𐭥𐭠𐭡 (hwʾb /⁠xvāb⁠/), from Proto-Iranian *hwápati, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *swap-, from Proto-Indo-European *swep- (to dream).[1] Doublet of স্বপ্ন (śopno) and শোয়া (śōẇa). Cognate with Hindi ख्वाब (khvāb)
