Borrowed from Punjabi ਪੰਜਾਬ (pañjāb) / پنجاب (panjāb), from Classical Persian پنجاب (panj-âb, [Land of] the Five Rivers), from پنج (panj, five) and آب (âb, water), referring to five rivers of the Punjab region.
