Etymology

From ยา (yaa, “drug”) +‎ หม่อง (mɔ̀ng, “Burmese man”), literally “Burmese man's drug”; believed to be from the fact that the drug was originally imported into Thailand from Yangon, Burma.^[1]^[2]
