Etymology 1 edit

Cognate with Lao ສວຍ (suāi). Compare Min Nan (súi).

Jonsson (1991) suggested it was from Proto-Southwestern Tai *suəjᴬ¹ (handsome; slender) but most of SWT languages do not have words for it.
