editEtymology
editLearned borrowing from Sanskrit सप्ताह (saptāha).
Cognate with Old Khmer saptāha (“week; period of seven days”); Modern Khmer សប្តាហៈ (sapphdaahaʼ); Lao ສັບດາ (sap dā), ສັບປະດາ (sap pa dā).
Compare Pali sattāha (“hebdomad; week”), from which Thai สัตตาห and Khmer សត្តាហៈ (sattaahaʼ) were derived.
