Etymology 1
editFrom Old Khmer *tyal, tiala (“to rebuke, to reprimand; to criticise, to censure; to blame, to accuse”);[1] extended as Old Khmer taṃnyal, from which Thai ตำเนียน was derived. Cognate with Modern Khmer ដៀល (diəl).
