Etymology edit

From Proto-Southwestern Tai *ˀbɛːŋᴮ³ (to share; to distribute) (Jonsson, 1991). Cognate with Isan แบ่ง, Lao ແບ່ງ (bǣng), Northern Thai ᨷᩯ᩠᩵ᨦ, Khün ᨷᩯ᩠᩵ᨦ, ᦶᦢᧂᧈ (ḃaeng¹), Shan မႅင်ႇ (mèng) or ဝႅင်ႇ (wèng), Tai Nüa ᥛᥦᥒᥱ (mǎeng), Phake မိင် (miṅ), Ahom 𑜉𑜢𑜂𑜫 (miṅ) or 𑜈𑜢𑜂𑜫 (biṅ). Possibly related to แพร่ง (prɛ̂ng).
