Etymology

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *t₁iʔ ~ *t₁ih ~ *t₁iəh (earth; soil). Cognate with Semai tiiq, Bahnar teh (along with other Bahnaric cognates with nasal infix), Pacoh cuteq, Khmu pteʔ, Mang teː⁶, Mon တိ (tɔeˀ).
