ថ្លើម
Khmer
editEtymology
editFrom Pre-Angkorian Old Khmer [script needed] (tleṃ) /tʰlɤːm/, from Proto-Mon-Khmer *t₁ləəm ~ *t₁luəm (“liver”).
This term probably acquired its figurative sense from some Indo-Aryan source. Compare Latin iecur (“liver; the seat of the soul”), Hindi जिगर (jigar, “liver; heart, mind, spirit”), Urdu جِگَر (jigar, “liver; heart, mind, spirit”) and Gujarati જિગર (jigar, “liver; heart, mind, spirit”)
