Borrowed from Mongolian бөс (bös), from Middle Mongol ᠪᠥᠰ (bös), from a Turkic language.[1] The ultimate origin is Arabic بَزّ (bazz). Compare also other cognates in Tungusic, such as Jurchen 博素 (paw-su /⁠bosu⁠/), 卜素 (pu-su /⁠busu⁠/), Negidal [script needed] (bosụ), Orok бусу (busu) and Ulch büsü.[2]
