Etymology edit

From Proto-Indo-European *n̥-dʰgʷʰi-tós, from *dʰgʷʰey- (to decline, perish) with alpha privative (PIE *n̥-). Cognate to Sanskrit अक्षित (akṣita). By surface analysis, ἀ- (a-) +‎ φθίω (phthíō) +‎ -τός (-tós).
