Etymology edit

From ἄχθομαι (ákhthomai, to be loaded) +‎ -ος (-os), which is from Proto-Indo-European *h₂edʰǵʰ- (to squeeze, (op)press), the same root of Hittite [script needed] (ḫatk-, to shut, close).
