Comes at the end of the stressed syllable, e.g. \sə‧rēn′\ for serene. May be bolded for primary stress, and used on unstressed syllables to indicate that a vowel is not reduced, e.g. \băt′‧ᵊl‧shĭp′\ for battleship.
