From 新撰 (shinsen, new compilation/selection) +‎ 万葉集 (Man'yōshū, oldest anthology of poems compiled in c. 759 CE).

(しん)(せん)(まん)(よう)(しゅう) (Shinsen Man'yōshūしんせんまんえふしふ (sinsenman'efusifu)?

  1. a 私撰和歌集 (shisen wakashū, privately-compiled anthology of poems) in two volumes, thought to be compiled by Sugawara no Michizane around 893–913 CE, with the poems completely written in 万葉仮名 (man'yōgana)
    Synonym: 菅家万葉集 (Kanke Man'yōshū)
