Etymology

Disputed. Proposals include Proto-Indo-European *-yéti and *-éh₁yeti. By surface analysis, -ի- (-i-, stem vowel) +‎ -մ (-m).

1. first-person singular present active indicative ending of i-conjugation verbs

   հայիմ ― hayim ― I watch

2. forming the mediopassive of e-conjugation verbs

   բերիմ ― berim ― I am carried
