1. Alternative form of -어요 (-eoyo), used after the copulas -이다 (-ida, “to be”) and 아니다 (anida, “to not be”).

   저도 한국 사람이에요. ― Jeo-do han'guk saram-i-eyo. ― I'm a Korean, too.

Usage notes

• -어요 (-eoyo) is also possible for the copulas, but not common.

-에요 • (-eyo)

1. (proscribed) Contraction of 이에요 (-i-eyo).

   제 친구에요. ― Je chin'gu-eyo. ― She's my friend.

   할 거에요. ― Hal geo-eyo. ― I'm going to do it.

Usage notes

• Although proscribed, this is more commonly used by Koreans than the prescriptive contraction -예요 (-yeyo).
