From Vulgar Latin *-idiāre, infinitive form of *-idiō (verbalizing suffix) (cf. also the variant form -izō, -izāre, from Ancient Greek -ίζω (-ízō), from Proto-Indo-European *-idyé-. Same source as -izzare.
