Swedish
editSuffix
edit-erska c
- making a female agent noun (role or profession) from a verb, e.g. sköta (“to care for, to nurse”) → sköterska (“a nurse”)
Usage notes
edit- In recent decades, sköterska is used for care takers of both genders, just like some male titles apply to women. This generally accepted policy in Sweden is the opposite of that in Germany, where different -er/-in titles are created for each profession.
