Etymology edit

From New Latin aleurites, from Ancient Greek ἄλευρον (áleuron, flour) + -ίτης (-ítēs, -ites: those belonging to), from the lower surface of the leaf.

Usage notes edit

In older usage, modified as a feminine noun but now treated with the other -ites forms as masculine.
